"Sometimes the cornea is damaged after a foreign object has penetrated the tissue, such as from a poke in the eye. At other times, bacteria or fungi from a contaminated contact lens can pass into the cornea. Situations like these can cause painful inflammation and corneal infections called keratitis. These infections can reduce visual clarity, produce corneal discharges, and perhaps erode the cornea. Corneal infections can also lead to corneal scarring, which can impair vision and may require a corneal transplant. As a general rule, the deeper the corneal infection, the more severe the symptoms and complications. It should be noted that corneal infections, although relatively infrequent, are the most serious complication of contact lens wear.Minor corneal infections are commonly treated with anti-bacterial eye drops. If the problem is severe, it may require more intensive antibiotic or anti-fungal treatment to eliminate the infection, as well as steroid eye drops to reduce inflammation. Frequent visits to an eye care professional may be necessary for several months to eliminate the problem."Ok gross...bacteria and fungus on my contacts! So this morning I woke up like any other morning and I opened my eyes and it looked like my house was filled with smoke. So I went outside to make sure that I wasn't go crazy and that my house wasn't really filled with smoke! Well it wasn't...I figured that maybe my eyes were just being weird so I got ready for work and the haziness actually got worse!! I called the advice nurse and they told me to get to Opthamology immediatley. Well it was only around 7:30 so I had to wait until they opened. My mom drove me to the Dr's office and the nurse there was a total jerk! She told me that I had dry eyes. Ok...well last time I checked dry eyes did not have this kind of effect on me!! Either way I got into see the Dr and he said that he saw major haziness in my eye. He said that my eyes were basically water logged and that I had water stuck in my eyes! He said that it was caused by my contact lens wear. That I probably had just worn the contact lens for too long and that I needed to switch them out more often. So I went and bought my $21 little bottle of eye drops that I have to put in my eyes for the next 4 days and worst of all...I'm out of contacts for the next 2 weeks! After reading that article...I might be re-evaluating my contact lens wear...that is just disgusting!
Stupid glasses...so this is what I get to look like for the next 2 weeks!
